Your Partner in Technology Strategy

When we bring a new client on, one of the first things we develop is a “state of the union” – or an overall understanding of where their systems are.  Generally, we find that they are flying by the seat of their pants.

Let’s think about this in terms of another essential business function: accounting.  In small business accounting, if your systems are set up right, you can simply run a profit/loss statement to show if you have made any money in a given month.  You have a system and a process in place to do that.  Really, when you think about your small business from a strategy perspective, you have to have a system and process in place to take that business strategy and make sure it’s heading in the right direction.  If you cannot produce a report, how are you going to produce a strategy?  As it relates to your technology, if you cannot tell me that your network is to a certain compliance level – that has definition around it – how can you come up with a strategy for the future of your technology?

The answer is simply, you can’t.

At the Gurus, what makes us different is that we work with every single client to develop a strategy around their IT and infrastructure that’s going to match their business strategy.  Much like your business strategy should include financial forecasting, so should your IT strategy.  For example, the technology you would implement for a 20-person company is completely different than for a company with 60 employees or more.  If you don’t start having those conversations about your technology now – during the forecasting stage, not when it happens – you’ll end up spending a lot more money than if you sat down and did some future planning.

How often do you sit down with your CFO to talk strategy and forecasting?  You should have the same approach with your IT.  And if you don’t, you need to start thinking about one.  We meet with our ConstantCare and Boost IT clients on a regular basis to have these conversations. It’s a very competitive world out there, relying more and more on technology.  You don’t want to be stuck with outdated technology, or a system that can’t support your growing business.  We make sure our clients have a strategy to make the most of their technology.
